LONDON Pre-WOMEN ECONOMIC FORUM: Road to India for WEF2016. Lancaster Gate, London. 29 January 2016. At the London Pre-Women Economic Forum we have gathered the best brains, top minds, thought leaders, movers & shakers and the crème de a crème.

SPEAKER No. 5: CHIEF KATE ANOLUE, Former Mayor of the London Brough of Enfield and Founder & CEO, Forum for African, Asian & Afro-Caribbean Women in Politics (FAWP). Kate was a Labour Councillor for 12 years and became the first-ever Nigerian Mayor in the London Brough of Enfield, where she raised funds for various charities in her Mayoral year of 2013/2014.

At the expiry of her tenure as Mayor, in 2015 Kate launched the Forum for African, African-Caribbean and Asian Women in Politics (FAWP), which aims to inspire and empower women in political awareness and political leadership. Kate has over 30 years experience as a midwife and has delivered hundreds of babies. She went into politics after successfully gaining a Bachelor of Laws Degree. Widowed nearly 30 years ago, and left with four young children who are now graduates.

Kate is a school governor at Raynham and Wilbury Primary schools. She was conferred with "Freedom of the London Borough of Enfield in 2007, for her community work. In 2008 she was made a Chieftain in her home town and was conferred with the title "Ada Jelu Mba Tulu Ugo" meaning "Our daughter that went to a foreign land and brought us glory". Among her many awards Kate has been honoured with the GAB (Gathering of Africa's Best) Award 2013, Winner of The Nigerian Watch Newspaper Woman of the Year 2014, Nigerian Centenary Award UK 2014 and Women for Africa Award 2015.

Coloured Goodies opent 14 februari 2016 in de Van der Pekstraat Amsterdam-Noord


In Amsterdam-Noord opent volgende maand een winkel die alleen donkere poppen verkoopt.

Ellen Brudet (49) stond eerder met haar gekleurde poppen en geboortekaarten met daarop donkere kindjes op de Van der Pekmarkt en op het Buikslotermeerplein. Nu komt er een permanente winkel in de Van der Pekstraat. De zaak opent op 14 februari, Valentijnsdag.

Coloured Goodies gaat de winkel heten, naar de gelijknamige webwinkel die Brudet runt sinds 2006. 'Het is de eerste keer dat er een winkel als deze in Nederland opent. Hij móest er gewoon komen. En voor mij moest het in Noord zijn. Daar ben ik geboren en ik wil wat betekenen voor Noord.'

Bij Coloured Goodies kun je terecht voor donkere poppen en donkere Barbies, maar ook voor poppenkleertjes in Afrikaanse dracht of met teksten als 'fawaka' of 'Suriman'.

SPEAKER No. 3: SHERRY DIXON, multi-award winning renowned journalist who has edited two magazines – Pride Magazine and HE Caribbean. Sherry is Founder & CEO Women on the Crossroads, a motivational website for women an Sherry Dixon Consultancy, a Marketing and PR company. Sherry is a Motivational/Transformational Lifeskills Coach and Speaker. She evolved from Magazine Editor to being one of the most sought after women Empowerment Speakers in the UK.

Sherry Dixon is highly respected in the ethnic community in Britain and developed a following of dedicated followers from her editorial and radio show interviews with celebrities such as Dr. Maya Angelou, Nelson Mandela, Iyanla Vanzant, Barry White, Luther Vandross, Pam Grier, Jasmine Guy, Nia Long, Cedella Marley, Whitney Houston, Alice Walker and many more. As an acclaimed journalist, Sherry has written for many publications including The Guardian, Sunday Observer, The Times, The Voice, and has done numerous television and radio shows for BBC Worldwide helping to dispel the myths surrounding confidence and assertiveness issues.

It is her thirst for mentoring within her community that has been recognised and applauded. In December 2014 Sherry was commended by The Mayor of London acknowledging her inspiring work with women in her community. The Mayor acknowledged her with a Certificate of Appreciation at the London Peace Awards. Her quick wit, brilliant sense of humour and warmth make her a very popular woman which has won her many awards including ALIVE Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award 2013, Most Progressive Women Award 2013 and was nominated to the Steven Lawrence Award in 2013.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER, DR HARBEEN ARORA, Global Chairperson of the Women Economic Forum & ALL Ladies League will be flying in from India to deliver the `Keynote Address at the Pre-Women Economic Forum, London on Friday 29 January 2016

Dr Arora is the Global Chairperson of the ALL Ladies League and the Women Economic Forum, President of the Center for Public Policy as well as the Chancellor of Rai University, Ahmedabad and Rai Technology University, Bangalore.

As an Author, Dr. Arora wrote “Creative Living: Discovering Your Beautiful Path and Lifestyle toward Happiness and Wellbeing,” published in the United States in 2010. Dr Arora has given talks on Creative Living and Human Values at Ivy League Universities in the United States, including Yale, Harvard, Columbia, MIT and Princeton, Brown. As an Educationist, Dr Arora has co-authored “Dawn of a New Vibrant India via Education, Educare, E-Learning, Equity, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Empowerment.

This book is path-breaking in its attempt at suggesting radical yet innovative measures to uplift the youth via world-class education and skilling to make India a leader in the global sphere. Three of her key recommendations have already been adopted by the new central government in India. 

Dr. Harbeen Arora has received the National Award for Social Entrepreneurship and Education 2015 by the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI). In business, Dr Arora has interests in real estate and investment advisory and VC funding. Dr. Arora holds a PhD from Sorbonne Nouvelle, University of Paris III; Masters from King’s College, London University and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London; and Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Delhi University.
